Giving Back - Women for Women International

Empowering and supporting women is crucial. Women have been living in oppression for decades and it was not until now 2020 that the first females vice president was elected in the US. We are as women already living with obstacles so why make it harder than it already is? We are relational beings who are made to connect, so let us make it easier by supporting each other.

Moonchild finds supporting and giving back to women truly important, especially for the most vulnerable ones. That is why Moonchild is very proud to be working with Women for Women International, which is a charity organization that helps support women in countries affected by war and conflict.

What does Women for Women International do?

Since 1993, Women for Women International has done their incredible job by supporting over half a million of the most marginalised women survivors of wars in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kosovo, Nigeria, Rwanda and Iraq.

Our Work with Women for Women International

We at Moonchild wants to empower women and for us it feels very important to give back to women around the world. That is why Moonchild is proud to support Women for Women International’s 12-month holistic training programme, where we are currently sponsoring two women to help transform their lives and inspire hope for the future. Starting by the end of the year, Moonchild will be sponsoring eight women to transform their lives.

How Does it Work?

Women for Women International’s year-long programme equips women to earn money, regain their confidence and actively participate in their communities. When a woman joins the programme, she comes together with 24 other women, forming a tight support group that helps to break the isolation caused by war and insecurity.

She learns a marketable job skill - such as tailoring, bread-making or poultry-keeping, as well as business training to turn her chosen skill into a stable income so she can support herself and her family. She can begin to save her money, and receives support to establish a savings group so she and other women in her community can make the most of their earnings.

She learns practical knowledge about her health, including reproductive health, stress management and the importance of good hygiene and nutrition so she can protect herself and her family from preventable disease.

She also learns about her rights on key issues like voting, access to land, divorce, custody of her children and domestic abuse. Once she learns her rights, she is empowered and equipped to stand up for them and can share her knowledge with others in her community.

Make sure to stand by your sisters and be there for them, supporting them and helping them on their journey. Life is already hard as it is. So please, let us not see females around us as our competitors, but instead unite, helping and empowering each other. Let us stop seeing other women as enemies, but instead see them as our sisters. It is time for us to empower each other, having each other´s back through life. We at Moonchild find Women for Women International's work and the need for empowering and supporting women in need crucial as there is an unprecedented level of violence against women and brutal armed conflicts around the world.
